Mark Wines has been in the financial healthcare industry for twenty-one years. His sound business advice, financial expertise, and understanding of operational process are sought by physicians in need of strategic planning with a profitability focus. Before forming 4C, Mr. Wines was president of the Business Services Division (BSD) of abeo Management Corporation, the largest billing and practice management company for anesthesiology and ambulatory surgery centers in the country. Under Mr. Wines leadership, the BSD grew to over fifty professionals including CPA’s, full-charge bookkeepers, MBA’s, practice managers, contracting specialists, lawyers, compensation system programmers and industry consultants. Mr. Wines uses his expertise to consult with physicians on a full range of accounting, financial, and strategic issues including P&L management, receivable and payable controls, payroll and tax compliance, benefit administration, best practice billing reviews, operational efficiency analyses, mergers and acquisitions, and hospital and payer contracting.

Mr. Wines started a hospital-based consulting company in 1999 called Wines Financial Services, Inc., where he served as president and chief executive officer for seven years before merging into Summit Healthcare in January 2006. Prior to that time, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of a national leader in physician billing and practice management services. Under his leadership, the company’s revenue grew from $2M to over $60M in a three-year period. During this time, he led both the finance and operation functions of the company, working with hospital-based physicians with a focus in radiology and anesthesiology. His work with group formations and mergers has made him a leading consultant for the expansion of physician groups across the country.

Mr. Wines uses his diverse financial background and understanding of physician reimbursement to assist practices with negotiations for financial assistance from hospitals and effective contracts with managed care organizations. Over the last two years, he has assisted in securing over $35M in stipends from hospitals to assist hospital-based physicians with their operating expenses. His approach has resulted in both financial security for the practices and enhanced relationships between the practices and the facilities. Mr. Wines has also negotiated numerous contracts with payers resulting in predictable and profitable reimbursement with proper language for removal of pre-authorization requirements, length of term and procedures for auditing compliance with the approved fee schedule.

Mr. Wines received both an undergraduate and graduate degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation, he worked in the tax department with Ernst & Young for three years before leaving to join a physician practice management company. He is currently on the Board of Directors of several large physician groups. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
