Dr. Michael Sherman

Prior to joining FOCUS, Senior Advisor Dr. Michael Sherman was a retired radiologist with 33 years of experience, who also has had unique experience in the business of medicine.

In 1995, Dr. Sherman conceived and implemented the simultaneous merger of 5 separate radiology groups to form Advanced Radiology, P.A. Advanced Radiology is a group of 90 radiologists that serve the metropolitan Baltimore region. He subsequently took the group public as part of a radiology services company, Radiologix®, which owns and operates freestanding, outpatient diagnostic imaging centers that provide a broad range of diagnostic imaging services as well as manages the employees and assets of Advanced Radiology. Dr. Sherman served as President and later Chairman of the Board of Advanced Radiology, P.A. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors and the Executive Compensation Committee for Radiologix.

While serving as Chairman of Radiology at Franklin Square hospital, Dr. Sherman was asked to join the Board of Directors of Helix Health system in Baltimore in 1994. In 1998, he represented Helix as the lone physician on the four person committee which completed the merger with Medlantic to form Medstar Health, a multi-hospital system serving the Baltimore/Washington region. The hospital system includes Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center. The merger created the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the mid-Atlantic region and the 20th largest not-for-profit system in the United States. He has actively served on the Board of Directors of Medstar Health as Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning, Investment and Executive Compensation Committees.

After earning an AB degree from Duke University in 1963, Dr. Sherman received his MD as well as his Radiology training from the University of Maryland Medical School. He recently completed a 40-Hour Civil Mediation Seminar which will allow him to serve as a medical dispute mediator. He serves on the Board of a captive malpractice insurance company Greenspring Financial Insurance Limited, which is owned by Medstar Health. During the 1990’s, Dr. Sherman gave several presentations on Multigroup Mergers at national radiology meetings.
